The Pines

Hamish assigned us to write a song this week and gave us the option of either using a poem or writing our own lyrics. I thought I would try my hand at writing lyrics. It definitely proved to be more challenging than I anticipated!

I ended up writing a four-verse song with a chorus between each verse.

The song is about The Pines – more formally known as Pilgrim Pines. It’s a camp and retreat center situated on a beautiful lake surrounded by pine trees and mountains. I have been attending the camp ever since I was in the womb and now that I’m older, I work on staff at the camp during the summer.

The lyrics of the song are as follows:

Verse 1.

For many a years it’s been summers I spent

In the shade of the pine trees so fine.

I’ll always return the place of the pines

Where the family and friends gather ‘round.

Chorus

Verse 2.

On hot sunny days we would swim in the lake.

We’d splash in the water to cool.

We’d take a canoe and we’d go to the falls,

dip our toes in the waters so blue.

Chorus

Verse 3.

We built castles of sand and we buried our feet.

We’d sleep in the sun shining bright.

We’d dance ower the hills and pick flowers so sweet,

sing songs that we sang every year

Chorus

Verse 4.

When the sun would go down and the sky turned to gold

and the work of the day was well through

we’d sit ‘neath the stars and we’d talk of the day,

watch the moon as it shone up above.

Chorus x2
